Dr. Schenk launches 100 % Topography Feature for the Inspection of BD-Discs
The inspection expert Dr. Schenk GmbH proves once more that constant product
development is crucial to affirm technology leadership in saturated markets. With the brand new 100 % topography feature, Dr. Schenk enhances its in-line scanners for BD discs with an extra competitive edge for quality and process control.
The inspection of the discs’ local thickness variations and deformations, so called topographical defects, has become more and more important to optical media manufacturers. Conventional scanners, however, measure such defects only on 20 radii and draw conclusions for the entire disc via interpolation. Measuring only 5 % of the disc area and projecting this on the entire disc, bares a high risk, that the extremes of topographical defects are overlooked. This results either in a high false hit rate or, what is more, critical defects between the measurement radii stay completely undetected. The product development team at Dr. Schenk GmbH has taken this market demand for a topography analysis covering the entire disc area very seriously. At MEDIA TECH expo 2009 in Frankfurt/Germany, Dr. Schenk will launched its brand new 100 % topography feature. With their unique optical set-up the new generation scanners perform a topography analysis of the coating layers covering the entire disc. The new feature especially convinces with its enhanced visualization technology (see images left), a spatial resolution of 20 μm and its highly reliable analysis of 100 % of the disc area - in real-time!
